The worlds of luxury yachts, architecture and interior design are engaged in a flourishing interchange of ideas. Shared Worlds, a conference held by THE ONE Yacht & Design at Spazio Teatro IED Milano, highlighted the many synergies generated by this continuous dialogue.
The First “Shared Worlds” Event by Platinum eXperience
The first Shared Worlds event, organised by Platinum eXperience and THE ONE Yacht & Design, took place at the IED design school in Milan.
Titled “The individual at the centre of the project, between yachting and interior design”, the conference aimed to foster dialogue between design and furnishing companies and some of the most prestigious Italian and international shipyards, yacht designers and architects.
Alongside the talks, the event featured an exhibition of iconic objects by the participating companies.
The programme included two round tables focused on key themes in onboard space design, spatial interaction and the crucial role of light and lighting design.
Each panel brought together representatives from shipyards, yacht design studios, residential architecture and the furnishing industry.
The Circularity of Space
The first round table focused on “The Circularity of Space”, exploring how residential and hospitality design principles can be applied to the most prestigious yachts.
Speakers included architect Francesca Muzio, founder of FM Architettura; Alessandra Massarani, partner at ACPV Architects – Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel; Guido Orsi, Sales & Marketing Manager at Tankoa Yachts; and Federica Cantori, Marketing Manager at Cantori.
The discussion addressed shipyard requirements, the designers’ vision and how Italian companies can bring quality, comfort and prestige on board by recreating home-like atmospheres.
Among the key trends that emerged was a growing focus on on-board sociability and comfort, with design solutions increasingly aimed at balancing the owner’s privacy with spaces dedicated to shared experiences. Innovation in yacht interiors is driven by close collaboration between shipyards, designers and architects, grounded in technical feasibility and budget considerations. The yacht confirms itself as a privileged arena for bespoke design, where every furnishing element becomes unique, enhancing Italian craftsmanship and the ability to customise materials, finishes and dimensions in synergy with design studios and shipyards.
The Benefits of Light
The second panel, “The Benefits of Light”, featured yacht designer Francesco Paszkowski (Paszkowski Design), architect Roberto Palomba (PS+A Palomba Serafini Associati), Marco Valle, CEO of Azimut|Benetti Group, and Valentina D’Agata, Business Development Manager at Altraluce.
Natural light emerged as a fundamental factor in onboard well-being, reflected in the widespread use of large windows and visual continuity with residential architecture. Artificial lighting, through bespoke projects, enhances emotional impact and atmosphere.
The discussion on lighting highlighted how both natural and artificial light have become central elements in the design of on-board spaces, significantly contributing to well-being and the overall quality of life at sea. Technological advancements have enabled greater continuity between interior and exterior spaces, while lighting design—when integrated from the earliest project phases—acts as a powerful architectural and emotional enhancer. Light thus emerges as a defining component of a new concept of contemporary luxury, more sensitive, experiential and focused on comfort and well-being.
A Vision Between Design and Dream
The conference concluded with architect Simone Micheli, Brand Ambassador for THE ONE Yacht & Design, who shared his vision of the yacht as a space suspended between design excellence and a dreamlike experience.
